Match Report

Sunday 16th December – 35 Harlow u13s Thurrock u13s 40 – Friendly

This week our young red men turned up raring to go from the off!

A desire to play and support each other was evident as a number of times the forwards carried the ball close drawing in the defence before going wide.

This pressure paid off early in the game when the ball was shifted to Owen Eynon who stepped inside and coasted over the try line to put us 5-0 up.

Thurrock responded with a try from their fly half who stepped his way through our defence, but the game plan was straight back on track from which Owen Eynon picked up the ball from a ruck and crashed over to the line. 10-5. This was then followed by Henry’s first try of the game as he burst through the defence. 15-5.

Thurrock were back in the game with a try again from their fly half again stepping his way through the defence.

The Harlow scrum was dominant in the first half winning all of their own ball and 5 (out of 6) of the opposition’s ball. The forward dominance we were enjoying coming from strong running with Brandon Jackson, Charlie Jacques, Ed Lea, Jamie Oliver and Jacob Morgan sharing the work load. Archie Goodger was securing the ball and the backs were enjoying the quality ball Jack Rushworth was providing. This lead to tries for Henry Stovell and Joe Court as the Thurrock defence was drawn in. Thurrock responded with a try from their pacey winger.

This dominant first half from the Harlow players meant they were leading 25-15 at the break and on a roll.

Both teams made some changes at half time, and Thurrock got off to the better start. Two tries from Henry were balanced with tries from Thurrock going into the last play with the scores level at 35-35. The Thurrock scrum provided their back line with the ball who shipped it to their pacey winger who touched down to just clinch the game for Thurrock.

It was a greatly entertaining game with both teams working hard. Harlow tired a little and didn’t commit enough players to the break down in the later stages which gives us something to continue to work on. Well played Harlow, Thurrock are a good side and we took the game to the wire. There is more to come!
