A CHRISTMAS MESSAGE

Merry Christmas

Christmas provides a natural ‘half time’ break in the season and allows us time to reflect, plan and compare to previous years.

When I look back at 2018 there is a lot for the Club to be proud of. It was a successful year, the 1st XV finished 5th in London 2 North East and were winners of the Essex Intermediate Cup. An impressive achievement when you consider that Harlow do not pay-to-play.

The 2018/19 season started with optimism but we soon discovered that we’re not the only club with ambition and it’s been a tough fight so far. If three words could describe the first half of the season, it would be ‘transition’, ‘injuries’ and ‘retirements’. Nearly 20 senior male players have been unavailable at times!

Having said all of that, the club has still fielded 3 senior men’s teams at the same time on the same Saturday and remains one of the best clubs to support every level of rugby in the area; senior men and ladies; minis boys and girls; youth boys and girls. My thanks for the tremendous commitment required by players, coaches and management to enable this to happen. This is particularly pleasing when you consider that Harlow Rugby Club must now have one of the largest minis and youth sections anywhere.

One message is still loud and clear, we want to play the best, most entertaining rugby in the best facilities we can, we are a club with a solid foundation and good building blocks in place. The future’s bright, the future’s red and green.

And so finally to all of you; players, supporters, physios, caterers, bar staff, referees, facilities and ground managers, committees, mums, dads, fundraisers, sponsors and all those other staff and volunteers that makes Harlow Rugby so successful, I wish each of you a very Merry Christmas and a happy, successful 2019.
