It was great to see the girls back playing rugby and this was their first league fixture. The fixture was Harlow v Bedford & Biggleswade, but due to other fixtures being cancelled we also had players from Bishops Stortford and Dunstable take part.
After the two minutes silence, the rugby could begin.
Harlow v Bedford Blues, Biggleswade and Dunstable.
The opposition had some very big powerful players so Harlow decided that they would play out wide. This was very successful and within a few minutes Wiktoria had scored a fantastic try running in from 50 meters with Karolina converting (7-0). A few minutes later with another good attacking set Karolina scored, the conversion was unconverted (12-0). Defending well and putting pressure on the opposition Tasha was able to rip the ball in contact and the ball was spread wide again and Wiktoria scoring her 2nd and Karolina converting (19-0).
We then came under sustained pressure from the opposition. They were using their big runners and although the defending was constant, they broke through to score, unconverted (19-5). From the kick off the opposition run hard lines and supported each other well and were getting a lot of success breaking the gain line. They continued pressure saw them score again unconverted (19-10). There was a period of play in the middle of the park that saw strong rucking and mauling from both sides. The ball changed hands a few times and the opposition were able to break through and score on the outside unconverted (19-15).
Harlow regrouped and had a good conversation under the posts and came out strong. The ball was constantly being ripped in the tackle and our movement and support was working well. A series of penalties saw us get to 5 meters out a quick tap from Tasha was just short the ruck was strong and fast and a few phases later Grace scored and was converted by Karolina (26-15). Then Harlow were back to defending and were doing a fantastic job hitting everything that came at them. Some incredible tackling from the forwards saw a great turnover and we were back to attacking which resulted in a great try for Tasha which was unconverted (31-15).
The opposition were not ready to give up and played some great rugby to score 2 more unconverted tries (31-25). Although everyone was beginning to tire no one gave up and continued to work hard for each other. There were some huge hits in the middle of the pitch, but the Harlow girls stuck together and turned the screw with Tasha breaking round the side and scoring her 2nd unconverted (36-25). Then from the kick off Lily took a god catch and made some ground. A few phases later and some great footwork from Karolina saw her run in for her 2nd Try which she converted (43-25). With a few minutes left and tired battered bodies everywhere the opposition managed to score one last try unconverted and the match finished 43 – 30 to Harlow.
