Match Report

We travelled to our local rivals Braintree on Sunday to play in the Essex Waterfall Cup.
We were treated to a week off from the rain however the slow start and desire to get to the break
down and organise our defence continues to be our Achilles heel.

First Half
Braintree started strongly scoring three tries before Harlow had fired a shot taking them to 17-0.
This was a line in last weeks match report reused this week. None the less this is when Harlow start
playing so the hope was this would kick on from here.
Play continued in the Braintree half as Harlow tried to apply pressures. Ball retention at the
breakdown started to become an issue.
Braintree were able to score another try before half time from a line out moving it wide and with an
excellent conversion took the score to 24-0.
Half time 24 – 0.

During the first half we has rotated the front row subs. Unfortunately, we had picked up few injuries
to Rhys Eynon, Oliver Davies, Owen Mills. This had meant a bit of a reorganisation of the side and
some people in positions they weren’t 100% familiar with.
The half time team talked reflected work rate, work rate, work rate. Both in defence and attack.
The second half continued in much the same way as the first with Braintree finding space wide a
number of times. Taking the score to 36-0.
From continued Harlow pressure and generally hassling the Braintree forwards. Daniel Wood seized
a loose ball and darted for the line. 36-5.

With league and cup games at this level, the gap in score cannot exceed 39 points before the game is
called. This happened when Braintree scored wide a couple more times 46-5.

This week was one of those weeks where we had taken a few steps forward in the last two weeks,
this week we have taken a step back. This gives us the opportunity to reflect and move forward
from here. It’s what we do next that is important. Let’s make that brilliant.
Continued work ons for next week: Work rate, work rate, work rate, ball retention at the break
down.
For the forwards, Defensive organisation, defensive line outs. For the backs connected defence and
executing under pressure and moving the ball to space.
Final Score 46 – 5
