Match Report

Sunday 23rd September – Romford u13s v Harlow u13s.

Today we played our first away game of the season and travelled to Romford and Gidea Park.

On arrival the conditions were wet and cold, which appeared to affect the boy’s appetite to get stuck in. Something which would come back to bite us at the game went on.

Unfortunately we need to look after the ball when we have it, as we didn’t seal off, ruck or support our team mates at the break down, we were often outnumbered at the break down or just pushed off the ball. Romford managed six tries in the first half which came mainly from them winning the ball at the break down and passing to their strong runners who we failed to bring down.

Half time: 30-0 (6 tries to 0)

For the second half some team changes came were made as we made use of our full squad. It was more of the same with this time 8 tries being run in.

The lessons to be learned from today’s game include both teams play in the same conditions it’s how your react to them that gives you the opportunity. When you turn up to play rugby, if your mind is elsewhere then the opposition have the upper hand. In a game you need to focus on your role, if we don’t have the ball we can’t do anything with so when we do have the ball we must work as a team to look after it.

We can put this right in training ahead of the cup visit of Westcliff next Sunday. See you on Wednesday night. (Let’s hope it’s not raining, but if it is, bring your man up pills.)
