Today we were invited by Basildon to play a friendly match, as both our original games were cancelled.

Harlow took 11 players, and along with 2 players from Bancroft we played 2 × 35min halves of 13 a side.

Basildon took a commanding 5 tries to 1 lead at halftime with our only try coming from 1 of the Bancroft players at the end of the half.

2nd half, saw Basildon score 1 more try and were leading 6-1. For the Harlow/Bancroft players, this was a bit of a wake up call and soon they started to play better rugby. Scoring 4 quick tries and pegging it back to 6-5. Unfortunately it was a little to late, and Basildon scored 4 more tries without any reply. Final score Basildon 10 tries, Harlow/Bancroft 5.

A valiant effort from all involved, especially as it was the first time our pack had played contested scrums and used lineouts. A big thank you for the 2 ladies from Bancroft for making up the numbers, and also to Basildon for hosting.

Player of the week went to Elsie Jones, for being such a utility member of the team and filling in various positions when required.

Also a mention for Wiki, who despite being injured came to support her teammates
