Match Report

After some fantastic phase work and runs into the opposition’s half from Tommy Johnstone, Daniel Porter and Jakub Frankowski the ball was carried into the 22 where Louis managed to get the ball over the line for the first try, 5-0 to Harlow.

South Woodham kicked off again but a brilliant piece of phase work from the forwards and some driving mauls Harlow were again camped in the opposition half. From a scrum number 8 Jakub picked the ball and found a hole in the defence to score another try, this one was converted by AJ to put the score at 12-0.

Another score followed from a great run by one of the newer faces in the team, Connor Jackson stretching his legs but being tackled off of the pitch at the 5 metre line, after another good line out by Daniel Eby and a few more phases being played Harlow led from Louis’ second try of the game, 17-0.

With a few good run and some clearance kicks from South Woodham, Harlow found themselves just inside their own half for the first time in the match. With the opposition having a scrum on Harlow 22 it looked like they could get a score on the board but with a strong push and great hooking it was turned over. Thanks to some quick play from scrum half and captain Jude Clark the ball got out to the wing for Zac Moroney and full back Matthew Brough to make a few runs and a couple of sidesteps to push Harlow further up the field. This opened up the field for Ervins Bukejs to weave through the team and eventually put it under the posts just before half time make the score at the break 22-0.

Half Time Score
Harlow 22-0 South Woodham

Some changes at half time meant Connor Molloy, Ben Peck, Luke Cheetham and Tejay Wilfort coming on as well as Mitchell coming back to the Harlow side whilst Zac Moroney got to play against his usual team mates and for the other team after an impressive first half performance.

The second half started brightly as Harlow kicked off and some great counter rucking and with prop Tyrone Kangwende powering forward a maul meaning Harlow got into a position for Louis to get his third try of the match, 27-0.

Looking to finish the match off in style Jude and Tyrone tried to make breaks on the left hand side of the pitch but unfortunately for them both were tackled by Zak who looked like a man possessed for the South Woodham team. After a great piece of hooking by Connor Molloy, Jakub got the chance to get another score on the board under the posts making it 32-0.

With ten minutes to go and a few experimental positions being tried out there was the chance for Daniel Eby to make a few more runs from deep in the pitch as well as Suleiman Mohammed perfectly ripping the ball from the opposition on several occasions. Another scrum that was dominated due to the size of the pack, bolstered by newcomer Luke Cheetham who was impressively gelling into the squad on only his second game. This meant Jakub also got to get a hat trick with the final try of the game under the posts, which delighted AJ who converted the try to finish the game at 39-0.

A great performance by all of the players, the team has made such an improvement over the past year that it even got mentioned several time by the opposition coaches who were full of plenty of praise. Well done U14s, onwards and upward!
