Sunday 15th March – Old Brentwoods u14s 24 Harlow u14s 12 : Cup

We travelled to Old Brentwoods today looking forward to a game having had a number of weeks off. Old Brentwoods were short of players this week so Jacob Morgan started at prop for them and switch with Felix Waugh at half time. Due to an injury late in the game Callum Boyce also played for Old Brentwoods. A big hand to these players which helped the game go ahead and all of our players other players get a game today.

Harlow opened the scoring from some controlled attacking from the forwards with good pick and go around the ruck, a good drive from Ed Lea provided quicker ball where number eight Ben Ferrier was able to break the line in the centre of the pitch putting the ball down under the posts. Joseph Pankhurst calmly slotted the conversion. 7-0

Old Brentwoods were able to come back and some heavy drives of their own. They broke on the right of the pitch to score out wide. 5-7.

Old Brentwoods remained ready to attack when they won turnover ball. From one such turn over they broke through the middle and scored a try which was converted 12-7.

Harlow then upped the tempo and put a lot of pressure on Old Brentwoods in there twenty two. When they conceded a penalty Jack Rushworth was on hand to play Brandon Jackson who then bashed and crashed his way to a touch down. 12-12 and half time.

At half time, the players recognised they needed to work harder to look after the ball and in defence and put pressure on Old Brentwoods to force mistakes.

We seemed to lose our way in the second half spilling the ball in the tackle or not looking after the ball in the breakdown. From these turn overs Old Brentwoods scored two second half tries, the first as they moved the ball wide and the second from a penalty crash ball which was converted. This took the final score to 24-12.
