Match Report

What a great game for the U15s final game at Rams Gorse.

Firstly, we must thank Ongar for coming today.  We haven’t played each other since the minis, so it was good to meet up again.   Also, a big thank you for the great turnout of support.

With the ground like concrete the game was going to be mostly back play.  Harlow opened the scoring with a drive by our forwards and from a resulting scrum, Alex Perry took the opportunity of a loose ball and scoring 5m out.  5-0 to Harlow.   But it wasn’t long before Ongar got their act together and with some great hands through their back and scored in the corner.
5-5.

From the restart Ongar again passed the ball through their backs and again resulting in a try in the corner. Harlow was going through their usual 10 minute spell of forgetting how to tackle. 5-10 to Ongar.  Harlow started to wake up and put pressure onto Ongar with our backs starting to show their pace and good hands but due to a knock on and from the resulting scrum, Ongar again scored. Successfully conversion resulted in a a score of 5-17 to Ongar.

From the restart Harlow attack Ongar’s defence and with Daniel Keane making a burst through their centre and run from inside Harlow’s half to Ongar’s 5m line looking like he was going to score but a brilliant tackle from Ongar’s full back prevented him doing so. But in the tackle Daniel was able to off load to Connor Ingram who supported Daniel in his run and scored in the corner.  Connor was successful with the conversion. 12- 17 to Ongar

Second Half

From the restart Harlow started to put the pressure onto Ongar. We were now starting to use our forwards for the pick and go. We then sent the ball out to the backs. Great hands from them resulted in Connor Ingram scoring. Connor was again successful with the conversion. 19-17 to Harlow.  The game was very tight. Both teams pushing each other back.  Despite the ground being so hard both teams were putting their all in.  Harlow’s final try came from a penalty try. Our forwards had pushed Ongar onto their own try line. A high tackle on Connor Ingram just short of the try line preventing him from putting the ball down. The ref said it would have been a try so penalty try awarded. 24-17 to Harlow

But Ongar were not  finished yet.  They put a great kick down the pitch. Harlow was too busy looking at the ball rather than diving on it resulting in Ongar picking up the ball and scoring. Unfortunately for Ongar they were not successfully with the conversion.

Final Score 24-22.

It was a fitting end to our time at Rams Gorse. The whole squad played their part. We managed to get everyone on.  We also have invited Ongar to be our opening game at Latton Park and I’m pleased to say they have accepted the offer.
