Match Report

A different outing this week with Harlow due to play Cheshunt but not having enough numbers to play and Epping Upper Clapton due to play Upminster but not having enough players to fulfil the fixture. Our relationship with Upminster is good and their coaches suggested a combined game as Harlow hadn’t been able to fulfil the friendly fixture against Upminster the week before.

The result was a combination of resources so the Upper Clapton players on the pitch for only the second time this season and the Harlow players out for the first time since 17th October.

A mixed side is always going to take a little while to gel and this was true today. We effectively played two games of about 30 mins.

First game 40-0, second game 19-7 to Upminster.

Our try came from pressure on their line where Upminster carried the ball over their line and grounded it. The resulting scrum 5 meters out, Charlie Jacques picked up from the base and drove for the line, as he was held reinforcements arrived to drive forward and the ball was slipped to Ed Lea who wriggled over to ground and score his first try of the season. This was converted by Will Finch.

Special mentioned to Jacob Heald and Tobie Westbrook for some great cover tackling today. The forwards who scrummaged incredibly well giving us a good platform and Upminster some concerns. Some excellent turn over work from Corey Kelman and Ed Lea, Freddie Thurley playing out of position at scrum half and Corey Kelman for leading the team and keeping the team positive today.
