Sunday 24th February – Wansted u13s 65 Harlow u13s 5 – League Grouping
Harlow travelled to Wansted this Sunday on a bright sunny morning.
The boys arrived a little lacklustre and a little concerned about the size of the opposition from previous meetings. Rugby is 80% mental and being ready to play, and 20% skill and execution.
The first half saw Wansted run in 6 tries, it would have been more if Callum Hewett playing at full back hadn’t smashed many of their players into the middle of next week.
We managed to score one try when we shipped the ball to Henry Stovell in space who then outpaced the defence for a great score.
Half time 30-5
In the second half we had a bit of a purple patch with many of our players waking up. Jacob Morgan made a great bust with a strong run through the defensive line. The resulting ruck put Harlow into space but we weren’t clinical enough at the break down and Wansted turned the ball over and scored at the other end of the pitch when it should have been a Harlow try.
Wansted managed 7 tries in the second half, mainly from turn overs at the break down and passing it wide.
The Harlow scrum was solid, winning our ball and many of the opposition put in, and this is a strength we can build on.
Final Score 65-5.
The learning points from today are: 1. No mobile phones in the changing room, perhaps stay off them from waking up in the morning until after the game. 2. Drink plenty of water before each game. 3. Arrive focused on rugby having been thinking about game day from the moment you wake up.
