Match Report

Sunday 22nd September – Harlow u14s 21 Westcliff u14s 0 – Friendly

Harlow hosted Westcliff in their first league game of the season. Rain threatened, but didn’t deliver which set up a great morning of rugby.

Learning from last week our work at the break down was much better. It showed straight from the kick off as Henry kicked long which gave Harlow a scrum five metres out. From the scrum Harlow applied the pressure with a number of strong carries particularly from Brandon Jackson which set up the way for Ben Ferrier to go over the line and open the scoring. Joseph Pankhurst calmly slotted the conversion.

The second try followed shortly after with the ball being spun wide to Montelle Levy who bashed and smashed his way to the try line. This time this was converted by captain Henry Stovell.

As Westcliff applied pressure to Harlow in our own half the ball ended up in Tolu Ajibabi’s hands with a little room to stretch his legs. As he did defenders fell away and he built up more and more speed as he crossed the line to score Harlow’s third try. Joseph Pankhurst was on hand to knock the conversion over.

Half time 21 – 0.

In the second half some of our players Westcliff appeared to have woken up, nonetheless Harlow kept Westcliff at bay, despite not having much possession, Harlow dominated and controlled the game keeping Westcliff in their own half. It was a mature defensive effort from team of young men.

Final Score 21 – 0.

Great defence this week keeping Westcliff in their own half for most of the game. Work at the breakdown to be done to stop the counter ruck.
