Update on upcoming national lockdown restrictions
The RFU are currently seeking clarification on what these restrictions mean for team sports and have committed to provide a full update very soon! We will provide these details as soon as they are released by the RFU, so that we can advise and inform all parents and players accordingly. We will train tonight and tomorrow pending further advice!
RFU quote 03/11/2020
“Following the Prime Minister’s announcement of a national lockdown last Saturday, we continue to speak regularly to the Government to seek clarification on what the national lockdown restrictions, coming into force on Thursday 5th November until Wednesday 2nd December, mean for community rugby. We recognise that there is significant speculation circulating regarding potential outcomes. However, we currently do not know what the precise implications of these restrictions are. We expect to issue a further communication as soon as we receive a further update, which is likely to arrive over the next 24-36 hours, once the plans have been considered by Parliament tomorrow.
Until the Government issues a further announcement, we continue to be able to operate at Stage D on the Return to Community Rugby Roadmap and, therefore, usual Tuesday night training sessions can take place today. Clubs impacted by local tier 2 and tier 3 restrictions should follow any local authority guidance that is in place for their venues.”
The RFU are also looking at models for a replacement competitive programme for Men and Women based on local clusters, with no obligation on clubs to participate and no consequences for deciding not to do so. Any local cluster competition would not be used to determine League positions for the 2021/22 season. This would be an optional competition structure that may include a knock-out competition at the end of the 2020/21 season. The exact format and regulations governing any such competitions would be approved by the Governance Standing Committee. Watch this space!
