GIVE VOLUNTEERING A TRY DAY
coaching ¦ first aid ¦ refereeing ¦ admin/manager
Sunday 18th July 2020 @ 1.30pm – 3.30pm followed by a Social BBQ
Come along for a couple of hours and find out what is involved in the different volunteer roles. Hear from existing volunteers and hear from our existing volunteers.
The session will look like this:

- 13:30 – Kick off set things up
- 13:45 – Split into relevant sections (Coaching | First Aid | Refereeing | Admin/Manager)
- 14:00 – Content delivery
- 15:15 – Back together & debrief
- 15:30 – Social – enjoy!
Also while you are there we will be able to complete or renew DBS checks and get you set up in the RFU GMS system which will help you register for RFU run events please bring your documents (Driving licence/Passport, proof of address i.e. a household bill from last 3 months)
Below is the outline for each area: (These will run concurrently, please pick the area you are most interested in)
Coaching
Who is this for: Budding coaches including older players helping younger age grades or who would like to
Discussion content: Presenting all the tools we have available to new coaches to give them confidence to get involved. Covering our player centric approach, coaches pledge, coaching curriculum, coach mentoring, Support to attend RFU courses. Inc. how to coach skills, asking questions & empower players etc.
Practical: Get outside and do some coaching!
Reward: Harlow Rugby Club Certificate of Attendance
Follow up: eLearning: Tackle Safe/Kids First: Tag Rugby (could be completed prior to the session)
Leader: Paul Eynon
First Aid
Who is this for: People who are watching games and could help the coaching team by taking on the first aid responsibilities. Recommended for current coaches who would appreciate the update and refreshing their knowledge
Discussion content:
- Scene setting – expectations of a first aider
- Introduction to head injury and the process to follow inc club procedure, access for ambulances. Network of 1st Aiders.
- Watch and discuss example videos
- Working through some symptom examples
- Example entries in the incident book
- Return to play plans
- Support network behind you even if they aren’t there at the time
- Will enable you to pass the necessary e-learning courses with ease!

Refereeing
Who is this for: People interested in the game including players above under 14 who would benefit from seeing the game from a referee’s point of view?

Discussion content: Philosophy and characteristics of a referee.
Practical content: Practice refereeing!

Leaders: Matthew Todd & Tony Hills
Managing/Admin
Who is this for: People who would like to help in a non-rugby role and create great opportunities for the team to grow together and make sure we have completed all we need? Admin/Managers really take the load from our coaches enabling them to focus on coaching.
Content: A discussion and walk through of processes and tools we need to use including use of WhatsApp, Members Apps, social media
Reward: DBS checked/updated Harlow Rugby Club Certificate of Attendance
