As part of our 70th Year Anniversary celebrations there will be a meeting of those interested in participating in a charity cycle ride at the club in the Presidents’ room at 11am on Saturday 11th January.

The below is a straw man put together by Jim Beavan, but open for discussion, it outlines what this could look like. Other events could be more local fun rides in and around Harlow, or even to Wales and a visit to previous homes of our founder members. This idea is very much in its infancy and the group will finalise plans together.
Guiding Principles
Purpose – raise funds for charity and young club members.
Velizy idea – captures imagination and grabs attention.
Numbers – 12 may be an upper limit – (accommodation, support).
Competent riders – 100km per day means established riders.
Support – possible with an estate car if riders ride back.
Newhaven-Dieppe proposed crossing – 2 days there and two back.
Some riders will not want to ride to Newhaven – so that is optional.
Possible Itinerary – Last week in May or School Summer Holidays.
Last week in May / Summer holidays allow teachers to participate (half-term).
Riders arrive Newhaven Sunday 25th May for the 16:00 sailing to Dieppe.
Support Carloads one rucksack per rider.
Arrive Dieppe 20:30 hotel stay.
09:00 Monday 26th May depart Dieppe.
Gisors – hotel.
09:00 Tuesday 27th May depart Gisors.
Velizy – Hotel Stay.
Wednesday 28th May tourist day in Velizy/Versailles/Paris.
09:00 Thursday 29th May depart Velizy.
Les Andelys – Hotel Stay.
09:00 Friday 30th May depart Les Andelys.
Arrive Dieppe – 18:00 sailing to Newhaven – Arrive Newhaven 22:30.
Summary
6-day event for riders riding in France only – Sunday 25th May to Friday 30th May.
9-day event for riders riding to and from Newhaven – Saturday 24th May to Sunday 1st June.
6 – day riders 5 nights in hotels Dieppe, Gisors, Velizy (2) Le Andelys. Approx. £60 per night.
Rider and Bicycle £38 each way on Ferry.
