HRUFC Club Referees Report – Autumn 2025

The 3rd team continues to support the club with refereeing for games across all the age groups. By the end of November we have already officiated over 35 matches since the start of the season in both club and school games (last year across the whole season the total was 51). At this rate it will hit a huge total with a large number of games coming up before Christmas and a very busy fixture calendar in the New Year.

October saw the debut of long time club member and player Callum Potter who took charge of both girls and boys U14s games as well supporting the development group in the U12 girls. His experience as a player makes him a great referee! Great feedback was received from all coaches. Thank you Callum and here’s to many more games in the middle with the club!

Becoming a referee is a hugely rewarding way to be involved with our great game. You will learn new skills and gain a greater appreciation of rugby from the best seat in the house. You will also receive a very fetching new jersey through the Essex RFU Club Referee Project to help you stand out (and not get run over by marauding players)! If you’d like to get yourself one of these, drop Dan Ricketts a line and see about getting yourself signed on to an Intro to Refereeing course this season! Courses are being put on across the county and with enough interest we can hold a course at Harlow.

Please remember, all of us referees are volunteers and we work alone. The refs on the TV have got a team of people backing them up. We will inevitably miss things but we never seek to influence the game unfairly. No ref, no game!
