Message from the Chair – June 2026

Summer is here!

May is done and we have celebrated the season past; we hosted the Harlow Civic Award where we picked up an award for our diversity and inclusion work.

The Ska & Reggae bank holiday music festival, brought in much needed cash flow for the club.

Who won our awards this year?

New season, with a twist

This coming season we are going to re-launch our Coaching Curriculum.  This curriculum helps coaches build skills with our players from the minis to the 1st XV Women and Men. It’s designed to help ensure that as the rules change from age grade to age grade that we adapt and ensure all our players reach Colts or Girls u18s with the skills they need to be successful to join our senior playing teams. More to follow through our wonderful coaches and managers.

Coming soon in June…

Our events are a significant revenue stream, generating income during periods without rugby and providing additional support when matches are held. All the money we raise is put back into running our club and providing facilities for rugby. You are our biggest sales force, please promote and support our events, bringing your friends and family to Latton Park along with you.

Summer Touch Rugby for all!

We are running summer touch rugby for all players from mini to colts, boys and girls each Wednesday from 17th June to 29th July at the club.
We will run this as we have in previous summers on Wednesday evenings 7:30pm until approximately 8:30pm. There will be mixed teams which will be divided on the night, even representation from all those who come along in a round robin format no result will be recorded and we will have a new set of teams the following week.
It’s just a bit of fun and a chance to throw the ball around. Older and more experienced players will be encouraged to help the younger players as much as possible. Tries by players in the minis will count double. Parents/guardians of minis players should be in attendance, and any parents can join in if they would like to.  These evenings will finish as training starts for youth teams on Wednesdays. I will bring along bibs and balls.
These games have been very successful at very successful at bring people together across the teams promoting our #OneClub approach, providing players from across the age grades to get to know each other and have a bit of fun. Please share this with your friends. Let’s play rugby!!

Ask the Chair Update – Tuesday 5th May

At last months ask the chair it was good to see some new faces. Most of our discussion were about how parents can get involved supporting out youth teams organising tours, fund raising etc.    Of course I am really keen for these activities to happen and would encourage others to do the same for the teams they are associated with. If you are interested in organising something similar please get in touch with your coaches and managers or me and we can assist getting things moving forward.

I was really great to see people keen to get involved.

Next chance to ask any questions will be at our AGM on Wednesday 24th June, I will then hold another Meet the Chair in August prior to the next season. Watch this space for more details.

Why is discipline important?

This season as a club, we have received 8 red cards across the club. We have been summoned to make representations to Essex on Thursday 4th June.

These representations will be to show what positive actions we are taking to prevent poor behaviour both on and off the pitch.

This season we have paid £450 in fines and costs to Essex, funds that could have been used in a more productive manor.

Why is discipline important? Our 1st XV are likely to face sanctions next season, league points deductions (possibly suspended) or financially. Formally the sanctions could be: (but not limited to) a reprimand, a financial penalty or deduction of league points or relegation, exclusion or disqualification from any competition, or a combination of the above.

My ask: Please talk to your players, supporters, parents and each other about their and your discipline. The impact is far reaching and hurts our club.

Managers and Coaches: If one of your players please think carefully about allowing that player back onto the pitch.

There is more information in my monthly message in the discipline section. https://harlowrugby.club/message-from-the-chair-may-2026/

I will provide more information on the outcome and impact at our AGM on Wednesday 24th June at 8:30pm

Club shop

Open & Urgent Roles

  • Help Leafleting – We have been notified that several people across the town don’t realise that we have a rugby club at the heart of Harlow. To raise our profile over the summer we plan to deliver leaflets to several of the newer areas in Harlow as well as some of the areas around our club if you are willing to help deliver these leaflets please get in touch and we can assign an area to you.
  • Grants Manager – Can you help us research and apply for grants? We have some key strategic projects where grant funding will be the difference between making these come alive or they remain ideas. There are resources available, but we need someone to coordinate applications. If you’re interested, you’ll have plenty of support from the Executive. As examples,
    • Grants are available for us to take opportunities hosting community events where the funding can be split across organisation, an event leader and facility rental.
    • Facility upgrades, in some cases grants are available for us to improve our facilities, this often involves matched funding.

URGENT: Rugby Management Roles

We are currently seeking a Chair of Rugby, but this role can be split into manageable parts. Could you help in one of these areas? If so, please get in touch with me.

  • Coaching Co-ordinator – Ensure all our players have a positive experience at Harlow, following a curriculum supported by appropriate training.
  • Schools Co-ordinator – Help us develop a vibrant schools programme, secure funding, and oversee its operation.
  • Walking Rugby Co-ordinator – Could you help us re-launch walking rugby for the club?
  • Under 15s Head Coach (under 16s 2026/27) Our under 15s side folded in 2025/26 and we are looking resurrect the side link a phoenix being reborn. We have a core group of players that need a head coach to give them direction and help them grow participation and recruit new members from schools and the local community.
  • Chair of Rugby – Oversee the above roles and help shape the future of rugby at Harlow. I am happy to mentor you or even share the responsibilities as you settle in.

Personal note

There is a lot going on at our club, as club members I ask you all to publicise and support our events as much as you can. Word of mouth and personal recommendations are the best way to get our message out there. It’s our club if you want to make something happen for your team, section, group, please consider this your invite to make something happen and make a positive contribution. If you need some help, please ask and we can help point you in the right direction.

I look forward to seeing you around the club soon.
