This week we have received the resignation as Chairman from Chris McFerran. Chris is standing down for personal reasons effective immediately.
Chris took the role earlier this year as an interim role which was confirmed at the AGM in August. Chris planned to undertake this role for a year as we refined our approach to governance at the club with a view to hand over to other suitable candidates.
As a life member Chris’ contribution to the club has been immeasurable and we thank him enormously for his help standing in as Chairman for much of 2024. Chris will still be someone you see around the club and will be working with us to hand over his responsibilities.
In the interim, Paul Eynon, Transition Officer and Kevin Harman, Chair of Rugby will stand in as co-chairs. The members of the exec will support Paul and Kevin in their current roles. Ken Potter as Secretary, Steve Forman as Vice Chairman, Victoria Broad as Members representative and Tracey Wedd as Treasurer (until the end of the year).
Acting quickly:
- Wednesday 20th November, we received Chris’ resignation.
- Thursday 21st November, the executive met to share the activities and responsibilities Chris has been engaged in and agree to communicate to our members.
- Friday 22nd November, communication sent to all members
Next steps:
We were planning to hold an EGM to update members on our progress since the AGM held in August. We will now hold a Members Update Meeting on Thursday 12th December at 8:30pm to provide an update on:
- Our financial position
- The actions taken since the August AGM
- Provide clarity about the structure of Harlow Rugby Club across the Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) and our Trading company to include:
- The roles in position and the roles of those advising us
- Detail on the assistance we need to operate as a successful club
- Invite nominations from our membership for openroles
We will then hold an EGM on Monday 13th January at 7pm to elect a new executive and continue to keep members abreast of our progress. Nominations need to be received 14 days prior by 31st December to club Secretary Ken Potter.
If you are interested in volunteering to help us evolve and build a successful club, please contact a member of the executive. We have three key areas we are focusing on:
- We would like to grow our Financial Management Team which include roles covering accounts payable and receivable, producing monthly profit and loss / cash flow reports.
- We would like to grow our Sponsorship and Advertising team with focus in different areas building long term successful partnerships.
- We need to expand our day-to-day Legal advice
