HARLOW’S u12s played their first match of the season on the 1st team pitch on Saturday.
We were due to play Chelmsford U12s but unfortunately they pulled out as they had arranged a club day at Saracens and we were unable to find another opposition team at short notice. However, that didn’t stop our team… and the game went ahead with Harlow vs Harlow.
The day began with players being given their new warm-up tops sponsored by Riley Mills’ dad Simon’s AJAX Air Conditioning company.
After the team had warmed up, Club President Alan Price then presented each of the players with their new Harlow rugby shirts for the season, sponsored by Coach Peter King’s company Essex Electrical Contractors, player George Gottschalk’s dad Will’s plant hire company Gottschalk, player Tommy Hann’s grandad Glenn as well as OCAD/LED Lighting Solutions.
Although the players were a little rusty, it was great to see the two teams starting to implement a good structure and the skills they’ve been learning over the past six weeks.
After the game, players enjoyed lunch on the terrace. They then performed a guard of honour for the 1st team, which they clearly appreciated as they were high-fiving our players! Many U12s then stayed on in the sunshine, with their families, to watch the 1st team game and pick up tips for the rest of the season.
Grayson and JT were presented with Player of the Day trophies for turning out to support their team despite both having long-term injuries.
