Saturday 1st February saw delegates from Essex RFU join us for the 1st XV pre-match lunch to present a ”Valued Volunteer” award. Alan Brooking (Chairman of Essex RFU) spoke about the importance of volunteers in rugby and how clubs up and down the country wouldn’t survive without their invaluable support.
Matt Selway was then invited up to receive the award from Alan and Kev Harman (acting Co-Chair of HRUFC).
Matt began his playing career at Harlow, earning county honours at Colts level before moving on to playing on for Saracens and Bishop’s Stortford.
Matt moved away for a while but upon returning to Harlow he resumed playing at the club as well as coaching his son’s age-grade team. Over the last few years his volunteering contribution has increased to include refereeing, first-aid, supporting coaches across all age-grade levels through his role as Club Coaching Coordinator as well as recently becoming a Member’s Representative on the Exec Committee.
Before wrapping up the presentation, there was one final surprise for Matt. In addition to his award, Alan Price (HRUFC President) invited Matt to become a Vice-President of the club in honour of all of the great work he does for HRUFC.
Congratulations Matt from everybody at HRUFC
