Match Report

Sunday 3rd March – Harlow u13s 30 Chelmsford u13s 0 – Friendly

Harlow hosted Chelmsford this Sunday on a damp morning at Latton Park. The boys were briefed to make sure they arrived hydrated having eaten a good breakfast and mobile phones were banned from the changing rooms, encouraging them to stay off screens the morning before the game. It appeared to work! The boys talked rugby from the moment the met up, self-organised their warm up and their communication all day was excellent. The boys agreed after the game this should be rule on game days from now on.

With the 80% preparation fixed we were ready for a game.

The first half saw Harlow put pressure on the Chelmsford players in their own half. From this pressure Chelmsford kicked to clear their lines the ball was caught by Joe Court who was able to recycle the ball for us to pass wide and Callum Hewett to open the scoring with a try out wide.

Our forwards were in dominant form and carried the ball and recycled well which dragged in opposition defenders. The backs had many opportunities to express themselves and tried a number of moves and entertaining off-loads. Not all of them worked by one that did saw the ball shifted through a number of hands before Joe Court scored our second try out wide.

With two of our back three on the score sheet, it wasn’t going to be long before the other, Montelle Levy added his own mark. His first came from a great scrum from the forwards, Jack Rushworth picked and broke blind before offloading to Montelle take a direct route to the try line out wide on the right.

Montelle’s second came from a period of play where the forwards crashed through phase after phase then the ball was passed through Jack, Tobie and Owen before Montelle took it to the line.

Half time 20-0

In the second half found us playing into the wind and the play was more central in the middle of the pitch for long periods
From a period of pressure the forwards were pounding away at the try line and Brandon Jackson somehow managed to ground the ball at the foot of the post to score.

From a distance out Montelle now moved to centre managed to make a break getting stopped close to the try line before offloading to Tobie Westbrook who had tracked his run well and benefitted with an easy score under the posts.
This week the Harlow scrum was again solid, winning our ball and many of the opposition put in regardless of who was playing at hooker or in the front row. Something we take a great deal of pride from as it gives us an excellent platform to play from.

Final Score 30-0.

The learning points from today are, preparation works. When the boys think about their preparation, eat and drink the right things, focus on rugby and not other screens/games then they give themselves a fighting chance. Long may it continue!
