Peter Wheeler, RFU Immediate Past-President visits Harlow RUFC – Sunday 7th November

Harlow Rugby Club are delighted to welcome Peter Wheeler, RFU Immediate Past-President to Latton Park on Sunday 7th November. One of the greatest hookers of all time – Peter played over 350 games for Leicester, was capped 48 times for England, including 5 as captain; and was a British Lion in 1977 and 1980.

Why?
Rugby Football Union President His Honour Jeff Blackett and his wife Sally are walking 150 miles during a 15 day nationwide tour this autumn to raise money for the Injured Players Foundation (IPF) as part of the RFU’s official 150th Anniversary celebrations. Speaking about the walk HH Jeff Blackett said: “While a global pandemic is not how we wanted to mark our 150th anniversary, it has given us the opportunity to not only look back at the history but also look to the future of rugby. It has shown the remarkable work our volunteers have done to keep their clubs and communities going. I am visiting as many clubs and CBs as possible to thank them – while taking the opportunity to raise much needed funds for the Injured Players Foundation.”

When?
Last week Simon Wakefield, Essex Chair, met Jeff and Sally on the Eastern Counties leg of their walk at Shelford RFC and on Sunday 7th November Peter Wheeler, RFU Immediate Past-President, and his wife Margaret, will visit Essex as part of this anniversary celebration.

Peter and Margaret will visit Harlow RUFC where they will meet members of the county’s management team, Harlow members and join some of the club’s Mini and Youth sections in a walk around the club’s perimeter to emulate Jeff and Sally’s walk. Everyone is welcome and should gather by the memorial garden, under the tree at 10:00am on Sunday 7th November.

RFU Injured Players Foundation
The RFU Injured Players Foundation supports and protects the whole rugby family. They provide support to any rugby player who sustains a catastrophic spinal cord injury or traumatic brain injury while playing the game, and they fund vital injury prevention research to keep everyone safer on the field.
