Match Report

U12’s v Brentwood

Brentwood started the match extremely brightly and dominated the break down from the off. A couple of missed tackles and some strong running meant that Brentwood were 3-0 ahead with the first third of the match played. However, some words of advice around the breakdown and adopting a sweeper to cover Brentwood’s ‘kickchase’ game, brought Harlow back into the match. A well worked move saw Matthew Barrett go over in the corner and only some determined defence from Brentwood stopped Henry Rudman from scoring twice more in the same corner. However, the defensive lapses crept back into Harlow’s game once more and Brentwood were able to go over again to take a 4-1 lead going into the final third of the match.

As both sides got tired and the ball got greasier, mistakes crept into the game. However, Harlow were now fully into the match and dominating possession. Unfortunately, they struggled to breach the tenacious Brentwood defence and, living off scraps, Brentwood were able to cross over for 2 more tries themselves. When Flynn Shaw finally crashed through the Brentwood defensive line it was too little too late and Brentwood deservedly ran out 6-2 winners.

A good sporting contest played with a lot of skill and respect by both sides. Not the result that Harlow were after, but everyone definitely agreed it was good to be back playing matches!

Coaches Comment: An extremely good game played by 2 committed teams. Brentwood were well drilled and managed and all the players played the match in the correct spirit
