Match Report

What a win.

Billericay have been a thorn in our side for the past few seasons but today we turned the tide. Harlow from the off were up for it. They were focused, understood their role and were prepared to take the game to Billericay – something that had been lacking in certain games in the past.

From Billericay’s kick off Harlow were in Billericay’s territory for nearly the whole first half. We were on the score sheet very early. Great back play to get the ball out to the wing where Pope scored in the corner. It wasn’t long before Harlow was on the score sheet again. Forwards sucked in Billericay and with quick hands from Gazzard onto Perry onto Ingram who ran forward but just before contact passed to Wright who ran for the line breaking two tacklers Score 10-0.

From the kick off Harlow again camped themselves in Billericay’s half. Perry took a big hit which left him on the floor. He recovered and before we knew it he was in the corner scoring Harlow’s third try. 15-0.

From the restart Billericay tried to push Harlow back into their half but Clark had other ideas. Ran into contact. Presented the ball back and before we knew it Howard received the ball and went into contact. His strength took him over the line to make it 20-0. Conversion by Ingram. 22-0.

Back to restart and again Harlow carried the ball forward to Billericay’s forwards. With a few pick and go’s we set up a play out to the backs. Support play was the name of the day. Pope kept in touch with the ball carrier and received the off load and scored again. 27-0. And then Pope scored his third try in the corner again. 32-0 half time.

Second half

Billericay had not given up and started the second half with purpose. They received the ball from kick off and pushed Harlow back into their own half. Billericay scored soon after and deservedly so for just spirit. 32-7.

Harlow were increasing going off side and were warned by the ref to watch themselves. Garner(captain) told his players in no uncertain terms to listen to what the ref had said. Harlow responded with a great try. Great ball play into contact then off load after off load after off load resulting in a team try in the corner by Wright. 37- 7. Back to restart and again this time Perry making it 42-7 plus conversion by Ingram 44-7.

Now Keep joined in with a try. He cut through the Billericay defence with left and rights scoring under the post. Again conversion from Ingram making it 49-7. Howard scored the next try. Brilliant off loads and support play (name of the day) made way for Howard for his second try under the posts. Another conversion from Ingram to make it 56-7. Billericay scored one more try to make it 56-12. Harlow had one more try in them. Keep finished the day off with scoring under the post after a few mistakes from Billericay. Conversion by Ingram made it 63-12 final score.

Great performance from Harlow. In fact one if the best displays of the season.
With this result we now have a chance of promotion but we could also still win the league. We have Stanford -le Hope away the weekend after Easter, then the following week we have Westcliff B at home. Westcliff B at the moment are topping the table so this will be the decider if we beat Stanford.
