Match Report

League Game:  Harlow U16’s 29-31 Romford

Big welcome to Romford today.
Harlow U16’s first game at the club and what a game!

From the kick off, Harlow pushed deep into Romford’s half but with great defensive play from the opposition Harlow was pushed back to their own half. The roles were then reversed and Romford were pushed back.  The opening try came from a well worked move with fast hands and good support play making the ball work from left to right and Dan Keane receiving the ball some 15m out and scoring in the corner. Unfortunately, the conversion was not successful.  5-0

Romford replied immediately with a try of their own. With some great foot work from their No:9 they scored nearly under the posts.  With a successful conversion the score was 5-7.

Harlow bounced back with two tries. With good pick and go work from the forwards, George Garner crossed the line for the first.  The other try was brilliant work from the backs to keep the ball alive resulting in Alex Perry crossing the line. 15-7.  Romford was not finished and they scored one more try before half time. 15-12

Half Time

Second half started brightly for Romford with a try from open play. Their No:15 ran through Harlow defence with ease and scoring under the posts.  With a successful conversion the score was now 15-19. Harlow pushed Romford back to their try line from the restart and scored themselves. With a successful conversion from Alex Perry the scores were now 22-19.  Now it was Romford’s turn. Harlow defence was all over the place resulting in Romford scoring. 22-24.

Harlow came back with their last try from George Gazzard. Picking the ball up from the bottom of a scrum some 3m from Romford’s line. Throwing a dummy and scoring.  Alex Perry again had a successful conversion. 29-24

With some 3 minutes to go all Harlow needed to do was hold out but with some bad defending resulted in Romford scoring and making it 29 all. With a successful conversion Romford won by 2 points with the last kick off the day.  It was a pity we lost our first game at the new club but it was a great game to watch.  There was a great turn out of supporters today so a big thank you for the support.  The squad wish to thank Fozzie for being our ref. He made the game flow as best he could and explained to the players when decisions went against them. This resulted in it being a very good game.

Despite the defeat, there were many positives to take into the next game.

Man of the Match. Ollie Partridge. For his 100% commitment as a flanker. Ollie was ever holding the ball or tackling the carrier. Well done Ollie. Great work rate today.
