Match Report

Today the Harlow U14s girls team had their first match of the season against Basildon. Due to numbers we were supported with players from Epping RFC so we were able to play a full 15 vs 15 on a sunny Sunday afternoon.
Shortly after the kick off we conceded the first try, however the girls responded with their first try from a well timed interception and 50 meter individual run. (This player went on to get 4)
The amalgamated team bonded well throughout the first half, going into the break 20-15 up.
The second half started with Harlow girls slowly increasing their dominance in open play, with our newly appointed no#8 completing her own hat-trick and two more tries from the home team. There were some standout players but what is more important is they played as a team, supporting each other, had fun and played in the true spirit of the game.
Basildon we’re tough opposition and kept testing our defences, while competing hard defending their line. Final score 45-25, Harlow notching up their first win of the season.
The only sour point of the day was the fact that our U12s had no opposition or equals for a game or a training session. However they supported their older team mates from the side lines which speaks volumes to me and what we are trying to build.
